It’s been five years since I have moved to the UAE. As and when I was at Bur Dubai, call it old Dubai- One of the busiest areas in town, I have passed by this restaurant called Goan Shack numerous times which is located at Ascot hotel. But I never had a chance to venture here. Call it better late than never, an adhoc moment popped and I along with a group of friends took the chance of dining at this awesome restaurant and had some wonderful evening last week. Thanks to my friend Dilip for suggesting this place. When the prospect has knocked in, why give it a miss! But as I write this blog I completely fail to understand, how did I even miss dining here all these years.
The setting of the entrance reminds us of Goa, one of the most popular tourist destinations in India, popular for beaches and seafood and people from young to old domestically and internationally come here to unwind. So, here the entrance has given that flavour of being at Goa and the feel of home specially for the Goan’s.
The setting is beautiful, its rustic and the interiors comprises of wall art and beautiful chandeliers. It’s decent, a small setting but large enough to carry memories with their authentic Goan sea food and cherish for a lifetime.
Happy hours is offered from 6 PM to 9 PM. The place lights up and comes to a full life post 8PM when the live music and band begins. They play English, Bollywood and also Konkani (Regional Language of Goa) songs to give complete justice to the place and art. Some old Bollywood songs can take you down to your childhood memories especially if you are a 70’s or 80’s born.
The DJ accepts songs on request too and the same is played. There is no restrictions for the entry of kids and one can find them shaking legs on the dance floor.
The food offered is authentic Goan sea food and the choice we made was Spicy Calamari fry and Pork chilly fry with Beer draft and Bull Frog. Never miss out on prawns at any seafood restaurants. The food was so mouthwatering that, I missed out capturing pictures of the food we ordered! It was an absolute pleasure on the taste buds. The staff are very attentive and the manager Mr. Domnick is very courteous and helpful, goes out of his way to ensure every detail or requirement of the guests is accommodated. The prices are quite competitive and the place is worth the money.
So, next time when you crave for seafood or if you have to recommend a place to your family or friends, you know which is the place to opt for , isn’t it?
